Why Shop Local?

Have you ever wondered why you should be shopping locally?

You can't beat it for freshness.  The quality is much better.  Not convinced?

I know that there may be more selection by driving further away...or less sales tax by making a purchase online.

But online vendors and distant communities don't respond to your 911 calls for medical, fire, or crime emergencies.

They don't sit next to you cheering for both their son and yours during your high school football game.

When your car gets stuck in the mud or you've lost your dog, they're not here to help.

Living in a community is a great thing... let's not take it for granted.

Let's support local businesses.

Consider this:

  1. For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $45 goes back to our community. At a chain store, only $14 comes back.
  2. Independent business make purchases requiring less transportation, so less carbon!
  3. Small local businesses treat their employees like people, not like numbers.
  4. Local business take the time to get to know their customers, and give great customer service.
  5. Local businesses are owned by people who live here, work here, and are invested in the health of our community.
  6. Local businesses in neighborhoods need comparatively less infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services compared to nationally owned stores entering the community.
  7. Small businesses sell products based on what their customers want and need, not according to a national marketing plan.
  8. Chain stores change the way communities look and operate. Do we really want to look like everyone else?
  9. Keep Jackson authentic!
